Mother Teresa has been one of my heroes since 7th grade.  In English class we had to write an essay about one of our heroes.  This hero couldn't be a family member and had to be someone we could look up facts about on the internet.  I didn't really have any heroes at the time besides my family, so I asked my mom who would make a good hero.  She told me about quite a few people and the things that they had done, but Mother Teresa won.  The more information I found about her, the more I grew to love her.  She was an amazing lady.  She truly lived her life in the service of others.  This is one of my favorite quotes from her.  

Don't worry so much about what others think.  The Lord knows your heart.  And really, that's all that matters.

So I've got a bucket (okay, just a small folder on my desktop...) full of quotes that I love and really believe in.  So I'm going to start inserting them randomly as "Livi's Logic."  Hopefully they'll inspire you, uplift you, make you think, or just straight up make ya laugh!  Anyways, here's numero uno :)

  

General Conference

Every year when General Conference comes around I'm so excited--excited to have an excuse not to work all day on Saturday, stay in my pajamas all day Sunday, and eat a bunch of food!  This year it's a little different.  I'm excited to hear the living prophet and apostles speak to us.  Yes, US.  The things they say are going to be counsel for all of us living in this day and age, facing the trials we are facing today.  

So, you might wonder, why the change in reason for my excitement?  It's because of a class I'm taking at the Y.  It's a Living Prophets class taught by Lloyd Newell, the voice of Music and the Spoken Word which airs every Sunday morning on radio stations around the world.  He has gotten me so excited to listen to the counsel of God's messengers called to direct us today!  Here are some of my favorite quotes we have gone over to help us prepare for General Conference.  

"Our times are turbulent and difficult.  We see wars internationally and distress domestically.  Neighbors all around us face personal heartaches and family sorrows....all face opposition and travail, and only the rod of iron- the declared word of God- can bring them safely through.  We all need that rod.  We all need that word."  -Elder Jeffery R. I don't know what counsel will be given in the next two days, but I know that I don't want to miss it.  I mean, 2 years ago in October they announce the temple in Star Valley.  The FIRST temple in Wyoming!  I was so pumped!  Then last October they announced a change in mission age.  What a wonderful announcement!  I'm going to be honest though, I've been praying that there are no announcements that big this October.  I don't know if I can take another one?!

I LOVE that!  Life's not easy.  Life's not all fun and games.  We only get one shot down here though, so we just as well make the most of it, and "thank the Lord for letting [us] have the ride."

A Little Gem

So there is cool stuff all over campus here that I don't really know about, or I don't take the time to go and see.  It's actually quite sad, so I've decided that next semester and all the semesters after that I'm going to take a little lighter class load so that I can experience more of these "little gems."  

Today I went to the Education in Zion museum in the Joseph Fielding Smith Building.  

My class went yesterday, but I missed to go and eat out with some friends before the BYU vs. USU game (we won, and it was super exciting!!).  Anyways, so after class today, I went by myself.  There was the nicest little tour guide lady, and she did a perfect job at telling me about the coolest stuff.  There's no way she could cover everything, and thank heavens she didn't!  I would have been there all night!  It is a really lovely section of a building, and it has so many interesting stories and facts about some really amazing people as they were starting BYU.  Here are some of my favorite quotes that I jotted down:

Hopefully I'll be spending some more time in that museum and all of the other awesome places around campus that I have yet to find!!

Enjoy the Feeling

It's always best when these feelings come at the end of the day. Then you only have to enjoy it until you fall asleep :)  Definitely love this quote!  Such wisdom.

Occasionally a missionary told me in an interview, "I'm not doing very well.  I just seem to be depressed and discouraged."  Unless there was an unusual reason for these feelings, my answer was, "Well, I'm glad to hear that.  At least now we know that you're normal.  Enjoy the feeling-it probably won't last.  And the first sunny day will do wonders for it."

It helps a great deal if we realize that there is a certain healthy element in getting the blues occasionally. It is quite in order to schedule a good, discouraging, depressing day every now and again just for contrast.

College has taught me...

Change

So today at the Temple I was reading from the Ensign while I was waiting, and I read a great article written just for me!  I can't find the article online, and I know I'm looking in the right magazine because there are the other articles I read, so I'll just do my best.  It was talking about change.  A college age girl was narrating it and she talked about every time something fun or happy happened she found herself dreading it ending instead of just enjoying the moment. Many more happy moments will come if we let them.  Change is inevitable, that's the way Heavenly Father wants it to be.  He wants us to change and grow.  Change is hard for me, but this article just put it into perspective for me.  I need to accept the changes and run with them.  I need to enjoy every moment!   I know that the happy moments will come if we let them.

I read this quote last year out of Elaine S. Dalton's book, A Return to Virtue. (I definitely recommend this book to everyone, boys and girls.)

This quote makes me feel so good.  I also know that it's true.  Our Heavenly Father knows us and loves us.  He is aware of us, and wants us to do our best and be happy.  We can be happy by making good decisions.  It makes me feel good to know that, no matter how pretty I am on the outside, I can grow more beautiful on the inside by striving to do these things.  Then, hopefully that inner beauty will show through my actions.
